The Gray Bees competed for the first time in the Dicks High School Nationals on March 31, since placing second in 2013.

The Gray Bee’s first and final opponent was La Lumiere high school of Indiana; a team that they beat 66-63 in a nail-bitter way back in December. The game was another grudge match, ending in a one-point Gray Bee loss. Comparisons to the Gray Bee’s heart wrenching, two-point loss to Montverde Academy in the 2013 finals are clear, as the team lost both games by a total of just three points.

Despite the blemish, the Gray Bees tied the school record for wins in a single season with 35. Although this year’s team didn’t make it as far as the 2013 squad, this season is arguably more successful. Unlike the 2013 team, this year’s bunch was not ranked in the top-25 going into the season, however, the team fought its way to a stunning 35-2 record, earning them the eighth spot on MaxPreps Xcellent 25 poll.

The future looks bright for the Gray Bees too, as they expect to return seven of the 11 players from this season, including three starters.
