SBP Defeats Chaminade Prep

St. Benedict’s Varsity Soccer team played Chaminade Prep on Saturday, Oct. 20 at NJIT. The team finished with a 3-0 win, making their record 15-0-1 and retaining their number #1 spot heading into the last 4 games of the season.

The game was tough and physical, but in the end the Gray Bees were too technical and in control of the 80 minutes. SBP went into halftime with a 1-0 lead coming from Israel Neto SY putting it away from a penalty kick. The team had full ball possession and never looked threatened from the opposition’s attack. Benedict’s had chances on goal but never a clear opportunity to score.

“We have to start taking our opportunities in the final third of the field,” Center Defenseman Preston Rushmore SY said. “We always have all ball possession but can never finish the game in the first half.”

SBP came out with the same team that finished the half and they looked like they had more energy and desire to put the game to bed. The second goal came from a good combination play down the left side when Rhys Armstrong UD2 cut a ball back to Striker Thiago Quintanilha SY to finish the chance. The third and final goal came from Tony Yeboah when he worked hard to get in behind the play to take the ball around the goalkeeper and pass it into the back of the net.

“We have to keep our goal scoring form up going into the last 4 games of the season, these next couple of games are important leading up to the final,” Quintanilha said,

The Gray Bees’ next challenge is Hunterdon Central on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at NJIT at 4:30 p.m.
