The varsity basketball team defeated The Hun School 57-42, in their first game at home on December 9. The team’s record was 3-0 and up to this point, few people from the Hive had seen them play. The Gray Bees missed their first five shots before Senior Bourama Sidibe scored a layup from in close.

UDII David Beatty had a rough shooting performance, missing all of his shots from beyond the arc and making only 5 of 18 field goals. The team was off to a slow start but as the second quarter began St. Benedict’s had started to build a lead and gain momentum. Their hard work became evident; they were falling for loose balls and playing smothering defense. Senior Arnaldo Toro led the team with his hustle, grabbing 17 total rebounds, 8 of which were offensive. Through the end of the third and fourth quarter, the Gray Bees were able to extend their lead to 20 points. Despite the wayward shooting of key players, the team was still able to pull out an impressive victory at home.

“We played extremely good defence and it was fun to play the first home game in front of my teachers and friends,” UDII Matt Pereira said.
