The Gray Bees beat Our Savior Lutheran at the Hoops for Troops tournament held at Roselle Catholic High School January 4.

The team was focused on preserving their perfect record going into the game. “We have to take every game seriously,” said senior forward Dailin Deville.

Senior guard James Scott led the Gray Bees, scoring with 28 points, along with the 1000th point of his high school career. “It was good to celebrate with my family,” said James. “I’ve been working towards that since freshman year.”

The Gray Bees were streaky throughout the entire game. Late in the first quarter, the Gray Bees made a decisive 12-0 run to extend their lead to 21-11. The charge was facilitated by the team’s lockdown defense. UDII David Beatty scored six of the team’s 12 points during their run, while Sidibe Bourama recorded several blocks on the defensive end.

Our Savior Lutheran fought its way back into the game during the second quarter. However, the Gray Bees went on critical 7-0 run to end the quarter.
The team carried its momentum through halftime and into the third quarter. “We came out strong and played good defense, which made them struggle offensively, leading to easy transition buckets,” said senior forward Bourama Sidibe.

The Gray Bees poured it on in the fourth quarter behind the pinpoint shooting of James. “I was hot and I kept shooting,” said James. The Gray Bees won 76-51.
