The wrestling team won its last home match of the season against Monsignor Farrell High School. Both the junior varsity and varsity teams won convincingly against the school from New York on Feb 1.

The JV team wrestled first with impressive wins from Freshman Gabriel Cardona and UDI Jacob De Sousa.

“I went all out, doing it for the team,” Gabriel said. “If it weren’t for the motivation and the tactics coach taught me I wouldn’t have been able to succeed.”

The crowd cheered as the Gray Bees sprawled, took down and pinned their opponents, one after another. The St. Benedict’s  barrage of different techniques and maneuvers from a wide array of JV wrestlers led to a convincing 51-24 win against the over-matched Monsignor Farrell.

This trend continued into the varsity match that ended 52-19. Seniors Alfred Daniels, Fredy Ulloa, Greg Cordero and Enkhbold Sukhbaatar were honored after wrestling for the last time in Dalton Gym.

“It’s home to me. Since seventh grade, I always look forward to it,” Fredy said about the wrestling program. “I came back every year because of the people there.”
