The varsity basketball team defeated Pope John XXIII Regional High School 102- 49 February 24. Pope John’s defense was no match for the Gray Bees’ relentless scoring.

The basketball team’s free flowing offense led to an impressive win. Senior Arnaldo Toro led the team with six assists despite being a power forward. Guards David Beatty, Jayden Saddler and James Scott combined for 64 points and 13 assists.

Senior James Scott was the star of the game. The guard, who attended Pope John his junior year, scored 26 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out five assists. James played aggressively throughout the game, regularly beating his defender and attacking the basket. He was also successful at getting to the line, taking a total of eight free throws.

The Gray Bees’ offense was coupled with intense defense. The basketball team snatched up a total of 52 rebounds and only allowed two offensive rebounds. Senior and center Bourama Sidibe was an anchor on defense, blocking a total of six shots.

The team will play in the NICAC Championship Semifinal Friday, February 26.
