On Saturday, September 16th The St. Benedict’s Varsity soccer team defeated the Green Wave 2 – 0 in dominant fashion at the Delbarton Soccer Invitational.
The Gray Bees got off to a scorching start with Kwaku Agyabeng (UD1) assisting 2023 National Gatorade Player of the Year, Ransford Gyan in the 7th minute. This dynamic duo was a force to be reckoned with last season and their status has not changed.
Transfer addition to the squad Cristian Oliveira (SY) glidied by Delbarton defenders and took a shot that led to an own goal that set the score to 2-0 in the 27th minute.
The rest of the game the Gray Bees made it their business to control possession and dictate the pace of the game. Delbarton wanted no parts of the brick wall consisting of Mark Surretsky (SY), Baden Wandling (UD2), Felix Osei (UD2), and Gianni Rosoario (UD2) avoiding their lockdown defense at all costs.
Although the Gray Bees controlled the majority of the game, they were not satisfied with the result.
Goalkeeper Victor LaRacca (UD2) said, “In the first half we started out with a lot of energy but I feel like we got complacent in the second half and started playing casually which led to mistakes. That led to not being able to score and add to our lead. Although that happened we were still able to keep a clean sheet as a team and get the job done.”
Laracca held it down in goal with excellent saves moving the number one team in the country to 5-0 on the season.
